On March 3, an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale struck central Thessaly, in Greece, resulting in extensive damages in the region of Elassona and surrounding villages. More than 1,800 buildings were deemed uninhabitable, including schools and temples.
OMONIA TRANS has many times stood by the side of people affected by natural disasters, helping and relieving our fellow human beings with its own means and its network. Therefore, our company could not be missing from this case.
Acting responsibly, we contacted local authorities and were informed about shortages observed in basic necessities for infants and children. This was immediately followed by the collection of items and their shipment. Diapers, baby medicines, pacifiers, baby wipes, etc are already available to earthquake victims.
We express our solidarity with the earthquake victims and wish them courage and strength.
| | 200 years of modern Greece
We, the Greeks, have had a long journey of thousands of years from the beginnings of human civilization until today. In this long historical crossing, we have led, inspired, pioneered, discovered, traveled, conquered, united but also divided ourselves several times.
The Greek revolution was the greatest milestone in the history of modern Hellenism and a major event in the history of our continent. It was the beginning of the creation of modern Europe and inspired the great national liberation movements of the last 2 centuries.
Today, 200 years later, we remember and honor the pioneers of the Revolution: the revolutionaries nurtured by the poems of Rigas Feraios, the experienced sea captains, the merchants who helped and organized the revolution, the educated Greeks who proved to the Great Powers of the time the right of Greeks for Freedom and the great politicians like Ioannis Kapodistrias.
Finally, today is the opportunity for all of us Greeks to plan our future with the vision, the inspiration and the respect we draw from our past. 200 years ago we gained our Freedom with virtue and courage. Today we must preserve it for the following generations.
