HISTORY

The first 40 years were just the beginning!

The year 2019 marks our company's 40th year in the international transport and logistics industry. For all of us at OMONIA TRANS, 40 years is much more than an anniversary.

At our 40-year milestone, we look back on how it all began. At our office at 39 Favierou Street, near Omonia in central Athens, with a staff of 2 and technology that is nowhere near what we have today. Nevertheless, nothing could stop us because we were filled with passion and fire, and a drive to work hard and forge ahead.

At our 40-year milestone, we reaffirm our values. The quality and consistent service we provide our customers 24/7. We make every effort to understand exactly what our customers need and want, and to successfully deliver on our commitment to them.

At our 40-year milestone, we look to the future. And we do it with faith and optimism! The second-generation OMONIA TRANS, under the guidance, the knowledge and the experience of the first, loyally adheres to the family philosophy and values as it leads the company safely and soundly towards an even better future.

And finally, at our 40-year milestone, we want to thank you. None of what we have achieved would have been possible without you – our partners and our customers who have become our friends. We grew and struggled alongside many of you in what may well have been the most difficult conditions in Greek and international business. Everything we have achieved, we also owe to your unwavering support and solidarity.

The first 40 years were just the beginning. The best are yet to come!

1979

In 1979 Fotini Giannopoulou and Panagiotis Patsiotis established OMONIA TRANS. In its first decade, OMONIA TRANS operated as a limited partnership with a staff of 3 and turnover of no more than €800,000. The company mainly undertook exports to Germany, as well as working with some agents in England serving the then-vitally important textile industry.

1979 – 1989

1989 – 1999

The company changed its legal status to a limited liability partnership. The staff grew to 10 employees, and turnover rose to about €1,000,000. Transport to and from Germany developed further, with multiple loading platforms in Munich, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. Business began to actively open up with the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg.

1999 - 2009

The number of employees grew to 17, and turnover rose to €8,000,000. The company’s warehouses and offices moved to a privately owned building in Lykovrysi. Mediterranean transport routes were developed with reliable agents in Italy and Spain.

2009 – 2019

Though the Greek market finds itself in adverse economic conditions, OMONIA TRANS boosts its personnel to 52 and turnover to €10,000,000. The company supports its customers and partner drivers through the capital controls period and turns to Fashion Logistics, further developing its European partnerships with exclusive and dependable agents, who in 2019 amount to more than 20.
Currently the company is under progress of new facilities acquisition for expanding its warehouse premises. Omonia Trans reinforces its green philosophy by acquiring the first and only hybrid electric truck for city deliveries in Athens.
