We closely monitor the European market, identifying growth opportunities in the remaining countries, where we do not yet have a presence. Our target? OMONIA TRANS by the side of fire and flood victims
The summer of 2023 was one of the most difficult for Greece in terms of natural disasters. Nearly one million acres of forest, an area larger than New York City, burned in the Evros region wildfires. On the other hand, the cyclone Daniel that hit the region of Thessaly left behind 17 dead and tens of thousands of flood victims.
OMONIA TRANS, always at the side of our fellow human beings and a helper in their difficult times, has already contributed financially to the fire victims of Evros, while offering school supplies for the children of the affected families in Thessaly.
Moreover, OMONIA TRANS proceeded with an additional action. We all know the importance of the bee in the environment, thanks to which 90% of plant fertilization takes place. For this reason, we created a specially designed area in our company’s yard, where we offer food and water to the bees. It is something that all of us can make, either in our garden or terrace. In the field of transport and logistics, our country has made real leaps forward in recent decades. Nevertheless, unfortunately it also has a negative record, about which we are not at all proud of. With an average age of 22.7 years, Greece has the oldest truck fleet in the European Union, with the youngest trucks belonging to Austria (6.6 years) and Denmark (7.5 years).
Efforts to renew Greece’s truck fleet, the majority of which are of EURO III category and below, are stumbling in both market difficulties and in the absence of financial support for the sector from the state. However, our industry is obliged to see the “big picture” and act accordingly.
On the one hand, the tax and legislative pressure for old vehicles will continue to increase. On the other hand, old trucks are big culprits of air pollution in the areas they move. Moreover, they are not even equipped with technologies that help the driver and the personnel they carry.
